Billy Bonka and the Left Hand Brewery Tour

So a few weeks ago, Brandon was out having beers when he met the head brewmaster of Left Hand Brewery. The brewmaster invited both of us to come tour his brewery, so we did... and sufficed to say, it was nothing like what we had expected.

A short drive later...

And so even though this looked nothing like the Left Hand Brewery we had heard about, we followed Billy Bonka inside, and within lay an assortment of magical beers unlike any beer we'd ever tried before.

Bryan was too incapacitated to speak, so Brandon tried a piece. And really seemed to like it.

5 Minutes of Unnecessary Poking Later...

And with that, we took the real tour, which was a lot cooler and a lot less internally damaging. The brewmaster, Ro, really knows his stuff, and he let us try a lot of great beers. So if you like craft beer, check out Left Hand. You won't be disappointed. We recommend the Polestar Pilsner, the Milk Stout Nitro (poured with nitrogen so it's extra creamy), and the Sawtooth Ale.

Also, while we're at it, we wanted to mention that we started a Kickstarter so we can produce a cover and help market our newest novel, The Dead Don't Play Slots, which is about zombies taking over Las Vegas. Please check it out, and if you're able to help us, we'd appreciate it greatly. The publishing industry says our book is "wonderfully written" and "very funny" but that it's too "unique" to sell, so we want to prove them wrong. Plus, even if you don't have any plans to donate, you should at least click through to see us in a ridiculous live action video that proves neither of us are any good at acting. And if you do donate, you can score some cool prizes, like a custom t-shirt, or being immortalized on the blog, or a permanent place in our black little hearts.

Thanks in advance for anyone who chooses to help us out, and again, another big thanks to Left Hand Brewery for having us out to visit!

Cheers and stay classy, friends,
B&B

We realize this picture makes us look like drunken midgets, but Ro is just really tall.

  2. I just about bust a gut laughing at that Red Bull = carbonated gasoline line.

Glad you guys had a good time. Hope they caught that Billy Bonka guy. What a creeper!

  3. Oh man, one of my greatest dreams is to visit a brewery. Okay, maybe not one of my greatest dreams, but I feel it is important to see the process of how that wonderful nectar that makes me feel good is made.

Good luck with your cover. I made a donation -- was super easy and I hope that everyone else does the same. You have provided me with amazing, free entertainment a few times a week for the past year, and I hope other people will also help you out. Plus, it will be fun to see A Beer for the Shower's rendition of Youngman Brown!

  5. I'm glad your real tour didn't involve antifreeze and rat poison! They really screw with the taste of the beer.

  6. Hey, I really like that "I.V.A." idea!

The only one of your recommended beers I've had is the Milk Stout Nitro. It was pretty good, although I'm really more of an IPA/IVA man.

When you Boys gonna do some "Blind Beer Taste Testing" and give us the straight dope on hops?

Off to check out yer acting talent now...

  7. You boys work so hard at this and I sincerely wish you success. Keep at it, you'll get there, you're good enough and you have the work ethic.

  8. You guys aren't drunken midgets? My life will never be the same again. But I'm glad you had fun on the tour, and neither of you died. I really think alcohol poisoning will be what takes you. Good luck with the Kickstarter too. If anything, being unique should be a major selling point. But it isn't. So we use Kickstarter to prove everyone wrong, and show them that unique is good.

  9. Oh I bet you boys thought you had died and gone to heaven getting that invite.
Sounds like a fun way to spend an afternoon. Never been to a brewery myself but have seen the insides of plenty of wineries.

  10. hahaha. I think I remember your tweet about this tour, something about Jesus turned water to wine and this yellow liquid to beer - something something.
This post was funny and brilliant and pretty creative, Billy Wonka and becoming blue - hell with the publisher, their loss. All the best for this second novel and I pledge to prove them wrong as well :)
That picture is cool and you look good , it is just a picture, either you could have kicked that guy to make him duck or you have used boost, thank god we ladies have 2 storey high heels, else I can never even make the picture if they crop it around chest.

  11. There were still Loompa-Oompas (the cousin of the singing candy making variety of slave imps) and a beer river, right? I love Left Hand, especially 400 Pound Monkey.
The video wasn't bad, though I wasn't privy to the previous 100 takes. I'll help where I can, gents.

  12. Awesome. Also, I'd love to donate $50 just so I can see myself in the web comic, but I think my other half would kill me. I'll see what I can give, I'd love to support you guys.

  13. This reminds me of the simpsons episode (very early and old) where Bart gets in trouble and is sent to france as a foreign exchange student. Except he's sent on some kind of crimiminal farm, and the two creeps get him to taste wine with anti-freeze in it.

  14. Ooo, this will be my first kickstarter. I'm keen :)

  15. I must visit this Left Hand Brewery and learn its magical ways! Beer flavored gum, complete with all phases of a drunken evening....awesome!

And now to see this kickstarter!

  16. Pay day is Thursday ;) will you post shirts overseas?

  17. LMAO told only how you guys can tell it. Quite the tour as Bonka gave you all you could ever want, with a little rat poison aside, see if only they used a cat there would be no rat poison around for him to use hahaha

  18. Awesome post, as usual. I made a donation of $25.00 but am not sure if it posted as this name or my, um, "other" name. Please make sure any acknowledgment is made to this one!

  19. Nice zipper club scar on Billy Bonka!

  20. OK,I'm thinking of writing you a $50 check, but then I'm wondering 'can you go to jail for that'. I mean what's that legal limit on bad check. Carp, did I say that out loud.

Then there's that thing about being immortalized as a cartoon on your blog. Yeah..I might be a 'dumb blond' but...

  21. It was the heart surgery scar that gave it away for me.

You can't trust a guy in a purple jacket who has a heart surgery scar.

Can I make up another name for the Acknowledgements page if I give enough on your Kickstarter page? Katy Anders has no double entendres connected with it!

  22. I dont know why but he looks exactly like a brew master should. Looks like you guys had a blast! :D

    ReplyDelete
  23. @Katy

You can call yourself whatever you want. Personally, I love the thought of dedicating our literary masterpiece to "Anita Jaggoff."

  24. Awesome post. I've always wanted to tour a brewery. Also, once I've dug myself out of this financial rut I'm in, I will most certainly donate some money. Shouldn't be too long.

  25. If you want to try some real blueberry flavoured beer trying Leinenkugal (sp?) Sunset Wheat. All the blueberry taste without the internal bleeding!

Will head over to check your Kickstarter next!

  26. I went to college near a Bud brewery. They sold cups for $0.25. I don't remember much other than that...

  27. You can't trust people with alliterative names. Remember that for next time! :)

  28. Hahaha I wish I liked beer, but I'm a wine girl at heart. Glad you survived the trip.

  29. uall are funny as hell! lol...agree that the LeftHand Nitro Milk Stout is a great brew!

  30. Man left hand is all over Colorado. I visited a friend for college graduation and they had a brewery rep in the store. Buy a 6 pack get a road beer! DO they still have open container law in Colorado? That's crazy.

  31. After my first shift yesterday I'm gonna need that IVA!

  32. We have Third Street Aleworks here. I don't like beer, but they have a few things I like including a blackberry ale.

  33. "Tastes like shame" ...isn't that the slogan for Old Milwaukee?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Awesome! I will totally go donate to your project goodness. BTW, I had a dream that I starred in one of your cartoons. I'm smitten ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. So I'm wondering...if I go back later and add another $25.00 can I get a cartoon rendering based on the collective? I have to admit I kinda want a BFTS Blondie for my page!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I love it! Left Hand Brewery makes many fine beers. As soon as I get some cash, I'll most definitely donate, my friends.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ok, maybe this is slighly off topic, but it is nice to know that I'm not the only one who thought Willy Wonka was a little bit of a creepy paedo. I mean really, "secret tour of a chocolate factory for lucky kids"? Can you be any more obvious?

I love the Left Hand Brewing website. I just turned 21, so when it asks "are you 21 or older?", I was all like, "fuck yeah I'm 21! I don't have to write my birth year as 1951 anymore" But really, the design is awesomely cute.

And one last thing: Ro might be tall, but one of you definitely wanted to enter for "world's tallest midget" Guinness World Record. So fess up - was it Bryan or Brandon? ;D

  38. Great stuff fellas. Always goes to show, don't trust anyone selling beer out of the back of a van, oh wait that is a lesson I learned. Good luck with the kickstarter.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Great post and also your promotional page for your new book. It's always so much more fun to prove someone wrong rather than do what they say lol... I'm sure it will be a success! Unfortunately, the sound doesn't work on this computer - however, I still enjoyed the video all the same. It's always nice to watch two nice looking drunken midgets talking into a cam ;-)

  40. 23 days to go? S***. I'll see if I can like, put money in the bank to donate something. It'd be pretty cool. I'll bookmark the kickstarter. Really!

  41. The three of you look adorable. This is cuter than that one time it rained puppies. And I never did acid again.

  42. Why must I read a post and then click on a link that takes me to a lovely place filled with delicious beer that I cannot partake in for some months. I miss beer. I miss the cold crisp first sip. The frothy head when poured into a frozen mug. Finding the subtle hints of fruit flavors as they pass across my palate.
    AGHHH.

  43. Is it wrong that I found myself a little turned on by reading JJ's comment. I think I need a beer now.

  44. If all of your 1,500 followers donated even just $5, that would be like, um...well, a whole lot of money!

Good luck! I'm heading over there now :)

  46. Who doesn't know what kissing a fat chick in the men's bathroom tastes?

I'm doing a brewery tour in a limo for my bachelor party. We visit 3 breweries. should be awesome.

  47. I want to do a brewery tour. It looks like fun. You both look smashed.

  48. Donation will be done later today - no - really it will. I think you guys deserve it but I need it to be under this name. I will also pass it along to my college age kid and have him post it to his twitter. Best of luck you two!!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. Hope you both have the best of luck with your kickstarter!

  50. I'll see if they distribute in my area. I'm in need of some good craft beer. I'm getting bored with the "commercial" stuff. Problem is I'm so picky about flavor.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I just realized why I'm blue. You fellas may have just opened my eyes soI can see the light.

    Great post.
