Hobsnobbery

So as you know from this post and this post, I've been acting slumlord to the townhouse a few houses down from our own, one that we've been fixing up and getting ready to rent out. Well, we already have an interested renter, and having hobnobbed with the two of them... it's, well, an odd experience.
The townhouse we live in was bought by our family once upon a time ago, so we stay here rent free. All of our other bills are paid with my unemployment and me turning tricks doing odd jobs here and there. Basically, we're poor as fuck but living in a nice area and getting by. That being said, it's funny talking to two people that actually have the money to spend almost $2000 a month renting a fancy looking townhouse--and then talking about careers, fine dining, etc, because I'm sure they probably think we're just as rich as they are. And yet we go home to our 'fancy townhouse' and eat Chef Boyardee, hot pockets (buy one get one free this week, bitches!) and bandage our dog's paw with an old sock, a plastic shopping bag, and duct tape because we're too poor to take him to the vet. See below.

Nothing like a good trash can fire to keep warm at night. Oh, and if you thought I was kidding about bandaging my dog with an old sock, a plastic bag, and lots of duct tape, well...

Stay classy, friends,
Bryan

Mood: Appreciative
Beer: Made in my bathtub nightly
Shower: Hard to shower with a monocle... but totally worth it

love the comic sorry about the situation and your dog. I hate snobby people, i felt the same way talking to lawyers at company dinners when i was a file clerk.

  7. You gotta survive however you can. Also, rich people like weird things. Nothing wrong with hot pockets and ramen, personally I love hamburger helper. Also, you all have some lovely monocles.

Love the pic of the dog, I've done spookily similar things to various pets also....but nothing beats the "radar dish" around the neck!

  11. all i can say is that it is well know that duct tape has miraculous healing powers and you are excellent at recycling shopping bags and trash novels. (oh and your pressie is on it's way)

  14. shuttlecock, snobby people, a ghetto bandaged dog, and ramen noodles. I think I love you. Too bad you are already married. *shakes head and walks away mumbling something about "...always my lucky."

  20. Chef Boyardee AND hot pockets? Fancy. I wish I could even afford that at this point.

  21. Normally I'm not a fan of book burning but in this case I'll make an exception.

Poor dog but beautiful bandaging. I've heard that duct tape fixes everything, is this true?

  22. The picture of the dog was epic.

Very funny post, as always. :D

DAMN IT. I need to stop feeding your ego, especially when you no longer go "OMG, JESSICA, YOU'RE SO AWESOME!" in YOUR comments to me. ):

But really, I laughed out loud at the comic about vaginas and pinots.

  23. Poor dog and I agree about the vaginas and pinots.

  24. haha your snobby neighbour sounded like Stephen Fry....I am sorry, but duct tape should be just as good as the vet...it holds the universe together

  25. haha I loved Meli's thoughts :D

  26. Nothing summed it up better than the picture of two people running at each other with boxes on their heads...indubitably.

  27. Well those summer "homes" are nice and cool in the hot weather.

  28. Oh, the horrors of hobnobbing... I'm with Meli and her thought bubbles. (And we love our Boyardee here!)
I don't know, sounds like you may have a future moonlighting as a vet. ;)

  30. Why do these fine folks want to rent a townhouse for $2,000 a month when you can buy a HOUSE for that amount??
Also - you lucky bastards, I want to live in a nice townhouse.
This post was hilarious; I love Mali's thought bubbles and the duct taped robo dog :-) I always cop out and take my dumbass dog to the vet. Next time he gets the bag.

  31. I really want to run around with a cardboard box on my head!

  32. I have been unemployed for three years so I understand your pain. Hum, I will have to try the sock, plastic bag and duct tape the next time my chihuahua hurts his leg. Thanks for the tip.

  33. Such a great story there. Loved your choice of garbage to throw in the fire too, Haha.

  34. Snooty people are just plain annoying. I hope your dog gets better.

  36. I haven't had a beer in almost 3 months. Can't afford to buy it. I'm really tired of this crap.

  37. Your dog looks nigh indestructible with that on. And I love the little details in your drawings, like the rich people's snobby noses, and your faux tux shirt.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Haha, that's funny. Quality post! Is your dog ok?

  39. awesome cartoon :D
    keep it up!

  40. Everybody is faking it.

    Everybody.

It's almost disappointing, really. When I was younger, I thought some people - the rich, the educated, the famous - were fundamentally different than the rest of us.

    But they're not.

    Everybody is faking it...

(The dog is adorable, by the way...)

  41. Dude, that was hilarious. Several literal LOLs.

I used to live on Ramen as well. But "Oriental" flavor always puzzled me. Was it supposed to taste like a Chinaman?

  42. Interesting style of 'love-making' you have there, I'll have to try it sometime.

  43. oh how i've missed reading your posts. LMAO at the summer home visual/bubble ( half inside a box), that one made me giggle.
